A Rare Moment

A rare moment, the memory of which I treasure, occurred on an otherwise mediocre day sometime in the last two years of high school. It was during the winter, but although my feet were leaving prints in the snow on the sidewalk, a light rain was beating a soft and steady rhythm that turned my umbrella into a concert hall for one.

Suddenly, the temperature dropped that last critical degree, and the concert literally froze in mid-air: the rain that was coming down all around me crystallized all at once into falling snow before my astonished eyes. It was as if God had suddenly said “Let there be snow!” and there was snow, and the snow drifted silently to the earth in hushed awe in the presence if its Creator. The only noise left was my gasp of wonder and delight.

Even in this fallen world, there are moments of incredible and surprising beauty…
