Card Design: Birthday Sea

Birthday Sea I couldn’t resist this week’s card making challenge at CASology – to make a card inspired by the word “sea.” I love nautical designs!

The basic layout I designed with desktop publishing software, then printed out the words “Happy Birthday!” and used stamps and ink to assemble the rest.

The map areas have a background of Sahara Sand dabbed on with a sponge, followed by the map stamped with Crumb Cake over a paper mask to get the bleed.

The black ship sailing onto the card maintains the white space and keeps the layout uncluttered.

Dividing the card into quadrants allowed me to use a small map stamp to cover a large area by repeating the design in an unobtrusive way. It also laid the foundation for the overall balance.

What a fantastic layout! Even with the two maps and the ship it doesn’t feel cluttered. A really fabulous CAS one layer card! Thanks for playing along with CASology this week!

Lora, this is an amazing one-layer card…I love the soft sandy colors and the masculine feel to the design. Wonderful! So glad you joined us at CASology this week!
